Self Care Between Sessions

Simple ways to support yourself between therapy sessions without turning self-care into another task on your list.

Start With the Basics
Self-care does not have to be complicated. Meeting your basic needs can make a meaningful difference in how you feel day to day.

  • Eat regularly
  • Drink water
  • Get enough rest
  • Take prescribed medications as directed
  • Shower, move your body, or get outside when you can

Notice What Helps You Reset
Pay attention to the small things that help you feel calmer, more grounded, or recharged.

  • Listen to music
  • Take a short walk
  • Read something you enjoy
  • Stretch or do gentle movement
  • Spend time with someone you trust

Give Yourself Permission to Slow Down
Rest is not something you have to earn. Sometimes self-care means saying no, stepping away from your phone, leaving a task unfinished, or choosing not to push through when you are already depleted.

Use Skills From Therapy
Between sessions, practice tools that have been helpful for you in therapy, such as grounding, paced breathing, journaling, noticing thought patterns, or responding differently to anxiety.

Know When You Need More Support
If your distress increases significantly, you are struggling to stay safe, or things feel unmanageable, reach out for additional support or use the Crisis Resources page.
